Our boy adores Thomas as well, and has for a few years now. So the good news is that the toys will probably last Jamie through several years of playing. And once he starts on the trains, if you choose the wooden trains and tracks, he will be able to pass them on to his children, they are so well made. The bad news is there are so many characters, there's always another one to add to the collection, or tracks to get! But it is fun coming up with all the track configurations!
